Course Description

This course will explore a multitude of artistic models, underlying principles, and practical techniques in order to analyze and understand the creation of compelling interactive performance experiences. Subjects of study will include the opera-in-progress Death and the Powers, the recently-released music video game The Beatles: Rock Band, and the new stage productions of The Donkey Show and Sleep No More at the American Repertory Theater. Frequent guest lectures and discussions with eminent artists, designers and practitioners from a broad range of interactive performance contexts, as well as attendance at several live performance events, will provide the class with insight into cutting-edge approaches. A final project is required and will be presented in a class performance at the end of the semester.
