Welcome to Brain Opera Vienna, the culmination of the Media Lab’s groundbreaking project that opened in 1996, toured the world, and now finds a permanent home at the new House of Music. Here art, technology and science merge in a journey of musical exploration!

The Mind Forest lets you try your hand at performing and creating music. The Hyperinstruments you find here can be played with skills we all possess -- touch, movement, gesture, speaking and singing. Try as many of them as you can -- each has a different sound, feel, and style of playing, and many surprises and discoveries await you. In fact, the more you explore and listen, the more you will find connections among the different instruments and sounds. You will even be able to add your own sounds to the music of the Brain Opera by using your voice at the Speaking Trees. More than ever, Brain Opera Vienna establishes that if you like listening to music, your pleasure will only be greater if you try making music yourself.

After playing the Hyperinstruments in the Mind Forest, here's your chance to choose and blend sounds into Brain Opera music. Each Chip you find in the space contains a different sound, many created by visitors -- you! -- next door in the Mind Forest. Choose your favorite sounds and mix them in the Blender. You can also modify sounds at the Tweaking Kiosks before mixing them.

And don't miss the chance to play the Sensor Chair, where your gestures will create music out of thin air, steering and shaping the ever-changing Brain Opera music. All of the diverse sounds and gestures you contribute produce an unexpected beauty, as the world around us is transformed into art before our eyes, ears, and minds.
