EAST COAST PREMIERE AT BOSTON LYRIC OPERAWORLD PREMIERE RECORDING FORTHCOMING ON ALBANY RECORDSCommissioned and premiered in 1999 by Houston Grand Opera, Tod Machover's Resurrection, called "a milestone and a noble achievement" (Lloyd Schwartz, National Public Radio), takes its inspiration from Tolstoy's last novel, written more than one hundred years ago. From November 7-20, 2001, Boston Lyric Opera presented the East coast premiere of a new production at Boston's Shubert Theater, in performances conducted by Christopher Larkin and starring Carleton Chambers (baritone) and Christine Abraham (mezzo-soprano). The libretto is by Laura Harrington, with additional material by Braham Murray. This new production was directed by BLO's Artistic Director, Leon Major.
