Musical Performance
Adam Boulanger, Graham Grindlay, and Nick Knouf
Musical performance is one of the most demanding tasks that humans undertake, both cognitively as well as physically. The process of reading and interpreting musical notation, translating this information into motor instructions, and reacting to the resulting sounds is a complex set of tasks that draws on many disparate cognitive systems. As a first step toward our eventual goal of a more formalized understanding of musical performance, we are working to develop quantitative models of expressive musical performance.
